In what appears to be an effort to write a new codicil to the Peter Principle, the New York Times reports that Obama is considering Jamie Gorelick for Attorney General.

In the news today: God Himself voted for Barak Obama:

"...when I look toward Washington, D.C., we got a new family coming in. We got a new family coming in. And you know what? They look like us. Amen, amen. They look like us."

Mandatory Community Service == Slavery?

Random thought: what is the difference between mandatory community service and slavery?  I ask because part of the new President-elects announced plan is to expand the scope of mandatory community service for people attending school - something the outgoing administration had also supported. Should mandatory community service be seen as part of civic education or is it a way for the government to utilize cheap labor and exploit a child workforce? Perhaps both?

Weed Wacking In The First Degree

A man's home is his castle, so the saying goes.  And when you pay extra for a nice view from your back window, it's grating to have that view blocked, no matter what the reason.  At least that's the way Larry Plooster of Fort Lupton, Colorado felt about things.  The cure for the visual impediment was simple, according to Plooster - just a decent bit of grounds keeping.  It would have been nice had the neighbors done the decent thing and clipped the offending weeds.  But they didn't.  So Plooster took the matter into his own hands and clipped the weeds himself.  Bad move, because now unless cooler heads prevail, Plooster could go to jail over clipping what everyone agrees were weeds.

The New Republic has printed a list of who it believes will be the 30 most important people to the Obama administration, more or less.  The top two - David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel - are no brainers, but the rest of the list contains some surprises.

Republican circular firing squad begins...

Conservative bloggers ripping up Mark Steyn of all people for reaching across the aisle within the Republican party.  Doug Kmiec passive aggressively calling Ross Douthat a hater, and then in turn getting called a pussy by Tucker Carlson.  In the real world, the #2 and #3 people in the House Republican leadership resigned, and deciding their replacement has set off inter-party squabbling.

Previously on Trees and Things: Life on the Internet -- Halloween was put at risk when our hero's credit card was stolen by a more democratic leaning, computer savvy version of Ashley Todd.

Today the full horror of those terrifying hours was more further revealed when some of the charges were finally posted to my bank. Apparently, during the parasitism of interstate commerce that was that incident my credit card number was also used to purchase Romanian Internet Porn.

I'm still waiting on the full accounting so I can sign the fraud affidavit B of A said was in the mail last week. Who knows what else I'll learn about this Barack Obama loving kayak enthusiast who apparently likes to get his freak on with Eastern European erotica?

The October Surprise

While Paulson was a Bush nominee, Goldman Sachs is replete with Democrat adherents as well (most notably Governor Corzine of NJ) so his loyalty is not necessarily above reproach. To what degree might Paulson have fixed if not the crisis obviously, the timing of it and the bailout so as to make the economy (Obama's polling strength all along) the stand alone #1 issue going into November 4? Could he have done this in July to give the Republicans more time to adjust or a month later?
