Best Apple Pie Ever

You all didn't get to eat it, but it was the best.

I thought I should let y'all know, my birthday was recent and I had the BEST APPLE PIE ever in lew (lou, loo, loe, legh?) of a cake.  The crust was from the Best Recipes Cookbook, the filling from Better Homes and Gardens (modified) with a mix of Spartans and Jona Golds.  Jesus came back from the dead just for a taste, it was that fucking good.

Spartans? Are they those dark purple apples that get ripe real late?

I think you've got it.  They're pretty good for eating, but do really well in pie.

The word you're looking for is lieu.

What a silly way to spell a word.  Thank you.

Hey, maml, spell out the recipe for those of us who don't have these cookbooks, or is that against a law somewhere? Apple pie sounds like a great idea now that fall is here...

Now with caps!

Since the recipes are from cookbooks, technically it is an infringement to reproduce them here....verbatim (hint, hint).

Actually, recipes cannot be copyrighted or protected in any way (other than just keeping them secret). You can copyright the layout of a cookbook, however - so it would be infringement to buy a cookbook, photocopy it, and sell the copies. It would not, however, be infringement to buy a bunch of cookbooks, copy out the list of ingredients by hand, and then reformulate the directions in your own way.

From your link:

Mere listings of ingredients as in recipes, formulas, compounds or prescriptions are not subject to copyright protection. However, where a recipe or formula is accompanied by substantial literary expression in the form of an explanation or directions, or when there is a combination of recipes, as in a cookbook, there may be a basis for copyright protection.

When I talk recipes, I'm talking the whole shebang, not just a list of ingredients, which is why I said that technically it is an infringement to reproduce them here....verbatim (hint, hint). So that hint was to make a little inconsequential change in the explanation or directions.

I will admit to hanging out occasionally on a couple food sites, and they are very strict about this stuff.

I can't believe this devolves into an argument about copyright.

I'm sorry guys, I'm staying up late tonight catching up on my homework for tomorrow.  Some how grad school, work, and four people coming over for the weekend is cutting into my slacking time.

My partner did the cooking, and I know she tweaked things a little (like using Smart Balance in place of the butter and shortening in the crust), so I think we could evade copyright violations here.  You know, if Viking Kittens is still widely available, I think you should be able to get away with recipe replication.  Especially when I'm not passing off the work as my own.

That's cool. Just curious. Cruel of you to tease us like this, but... thanks for thinking of us :)
Might be headed down to Indiana to go apple picking this weekend, and now I've got this pie idea in my head...

Now with caps!
