The FDA recently lifted a 14 year ban on silicone breast implants.  In 1992 silicone breast implants were banned due to health concerns.  Years of study have found that some women with implants would experience "Breast pain, hardening of the area around the implant, change in nipple sensation, implant rupture and the need for additional surgery'"  Saline breast implants, which have been available throughout this period do not cause any of these problems.  The $230 million dollar industry is expecting double digit market growth.

Do the silicone ones feel any more realistic?  Cause I mean, the saline ones, while fun to look at, are about as appealing as squeezing a ball of silly putty.

My understanding is that they do feel more realistic. As to whether you can tell the difference by looking, you tell me.

Set #7 is an example of everything that is wrong with breast implants. Set #29 is an example of very good, judicious use of breast implants, should the patient deem them necessary. Personally, I can't see why #29 wanted implants so maybe that's part of why the transition looks so smooth.

I remember my mom's friend had a mastectomy for a lump back in the late 80's and had her silicon implant removed as soon as there was any question about them. I don't see any need for them at all but if there's a demand they must be better in some fashion. Unless they're just more expensive.
