Time To Sell Your Dollars?

America's current precarious economic situation is well documented. The leanings of its federal government toward ever-expanding internationalist programs is also well documented. Enter the perfect storm: new currency.

Such rumors abound on the internet, buoyed by this single mention in the mainstream press, that serious monetary policy may very well be in the works for a potentially united North America. Whereas movement to the Euro was openly debated and bandied about for years prior, the potential change over to the "Amero" has only found the ears of internet whisperers.

Should China look to call the US currency it holds, such a move would make economic sense. The Chinese would be forced to negotiate a new value for such a currency as it would include the economic might of the US, Canada and Mexico. But would such blatant usurpation of US political norms spell the end for already dwindling power outside of federal governance?

none

A unified currency for North America? The US government suddenly falling in the face of massive foreign and economic pressure?

Didn't I read this in that horrid Left Behind series?

4.00 (interesting)

I don't really get this comment. Certainly many of the sources are a bit "out there" on this one but no one's saying anything about the US government falling. France certainly didn't fall to the EU and they're the surrender monkeys. Following NAFTA, it only follows that something like this would be on the long term horizon. Given that the US Dollar has fallen to Canadian levels for the first time in decades and there are elements in our government extremely desirous of increased cheap labor from Mexico, why doesn't it make sense that ideas for a a unified currency would be accelerated?

It is easy to buy small plaster models of what you think life is like.
