Scofflaw? Feel Free To Vote In Philly

In Philadelphia, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Everett Gillison has announced that fliers were found circulating the city which seem to imply that police will make a concerted effort to identify those with outstanding legal matters or traffic tickets and arrest them or impound their cars at polling places on election day. Deputy Mayor Gillison denies that police will be mobilized in such an effort and has referred the flier to the US Attorneys and City DA's offices for investigation for voter intimidation.

The flier is a rambling spam-like screed full of scare quotes and buzwords like "electronic genius of wireless technology." It further implies that certain supporters of Democratic candidate Barack Obama would be "illegally" voting for him. Gillison said, "We are not going to stand for any intimidation of voters. Not in this city."

This wasn't a flyer of a voter suppression plan. I think it was a transcript of one of the sermons from the crazy schizophrenic who hangs out on the corner and rails against the system during business hours.

The constitution of the nation of Hawaii had a specific provision in it that no one could be arrested on Election Day, except for active breaches of the peace.  It's a good idea, if you ask me, but then, it would interfere with those voter suppression efforts that are so important.

This sort of flyer reminds me (for reasons I'm not even sure of) of a regular protester in Chicago who holds up a sign which says "FBI Stop raping my wife" --as I recall he names a specific person as well. The intriguing thing is that he won't talk to anyone about his case, just stands there holding up his sign.

One of the most surreal things I saw while visiting chicago.

No, the place pO157 is referring to is pronounced, "WaWa."

I prefer Sheetz to WaWa, personally.  We have lots of WaWa here in DE, but very few (possibly none, not sure) Sheetz.

Sheetz is the best I ever seen.

For the uninitiated, you use a computer terminal to design your own sandwich and it comes out freshly made a minute later. Want a BLT on a roll with quadruple bacon and horseradish sauce? No problem. English muffin with pepperjack cheese, egg, ham, bacon, and sausage? No problem: just hit the right buttons.
