Fumo: Lawmakers Would Enact Slavery

In an effort to make a minor point about marriage rights, Pennsylvania state legislator Vince Fumo inadvertently started a larger fire storm about race.

"I know some people up here, especially on a secret ballot, it would be almost unanimous." Fumo said to a fellow legislator regarding his fellow legislators' proclivity for backward looking political stances. That became an issue because the legislator he made the point to was black and against the progressive marriage legislation Fumo was hoping to see passed. Fumo has since said that he was "obviously exaggerating to make a point."

But wait there's more

Steve Urkel.

4.00 (funny)

"Fumo is retiring from the Senate this fall after 30 year in office to devote his attention to his September trial on 139 federal corruption counts."

He's not the first to make that sort of comparison. For some reason many liberals are suprised when blacks don't see any sort of equivalence between themselves and homosexuals.

Only republicans are crooks.

Not true...however, the most craven, bold, and arrogant do trend that way.

I can't argue with your logic...but I can recommend a good therapist

So you're saying he's right.

No, he's wrong, Republicans don't want to bring back slavery.

No, he's wrong, Republicans don't want to bring back slavery.

At least not racial slavery.  Consumer/worker slavery...that's a different kettle of fish.

So, Gord...question on subject line.  Who would you enslave?  Whole groups or just individuals?

I can't argue with your logic...but I can recommend a good therapist

"Whole groups or just individuals?"

Can I do both?

He didn't say anything about Republicans wanting to bring back slavery.

Straw man? I have no idea what you mean. Since Fumo is a Democrat I assume he was implying only his Republican colleagues were in favor of bringing back the good old days.

That's a strong assumption. He said it would be "near unanimous." Last I checked, the Pennsylvania Senate was still almost half Democratic. Touchy, touchy... ;-)
