Next time I'm at a protest and I see one of these things, I might politely ask its wearer to point it away from me.  Two connected thoughts pop into my head.

One:  Army intelligence agents used to photograph and film anti-Vietnam War protests, often by posing as journalists.  This, they thought, gave them useful information.

Two:  When public demonstrations degenerate into mob violence or vandalism, the government has successfully sought to obtain photographs and video taken by protesters (or journalist/protesters) to investigate the crimes.

If people intend to be peaceful and want to keep their protests peaceful, then two is actually a good thing. In regard to one, maybe more protests would simply go the way of Anonymous. Then again, maybe not.

Heh. I wonder how long it'll take the ACLU to realize that full audio/video/location recordings from devices used en masse during a protest is a prosecutor's data gold mine?

I dunno man, I think maybe my friends should wear these when they go out for a drive.

Really? Isn't there video evidence of police getting more agitated when they know civilians are filming them?

If you actually had a lawyer on the other end of this, that would make things very interesting as there's no law against such a thing that I'm aware. Once you got inside the jail, though, that would be a different story.

There's no law against it, but that thing's so small it's likely to get lost in a scuffle.

It transmits while the action is taking place.

I believe that's the main strong point of the Miranda to the demonstrating market niche. It essentially is transmitting a signal while it's filming what's going on which means, if it does get lost in a scuffle (or lost when you're in police custody), what a demonstrator wants to publicize about a confrontation is out there and where the device actually is is immaterial.

I guess the cops will have to arrest them real nice. Time to change the laws so protesters can be locked up for serious hard time.

I meant the ones who break the law. I don't know how many on your list do that with the regularity that the anti-war/anti-globalization/anti-etc. knuckleheads do.

If there are any Terry Schiavo picketers left, then they should be arrested and beaten. Just because.

Once you got inside the jail, though, that would be a different story.

I find that statement interesting. I doubt they would let an inmate keep a camera past booking (it is a valuable item, security risk, etc) but yet they have no problem with letting a reality TV show into the prison to shoot everything that happens.

I guess it doesn't go both ways, eh?
