Musical Chain Game!

Here's how this works. Look at the YouTube music video link, and you find another song with at least a tangential connection. You post a link to that music video. The next person posts a link to one in reply to yours. And around and around we go in the music video circle of trust.

Now, just because you like Skynyrd or something you can't just jump in and post like 50 songs of his. They have to be related somehow. Similar plot, lyrics, musical style, content, sounds like the other one, whatever. You can play some oldies, some goodies, some new music, some independent stuff, some classics. You can expand every bodies mind... man. It just has to work and be related. Somehow. If there is any question you'd better post a narrative statement explaining why or how.

To kick it all off, here is one of the classic songs of our time:

Editor's note - embeds can only be run in the main story, so please just use an html link to the video when posting your replies / comments.

It always amazed me how spiritual an act like Skynyrd managed to be. Circle of trust for me is a fantastic kick off song. You can go so many places with it and also puts itself out there as something of a harbinger with lines like "there's a calm before the storm/I know it's been coming for some time." When he asks "Have you ever seen the rain?" he could easily be talking about tough times, even like the ones we face now. I think it's a great lead in to something like this.

I'll see your African-American gentleman dancing like a white guy, and raise you Timbaland's "The Way I Are." Not the skillful use of the introspective look at 0:18, uncoordinated hand slapping gestures at 0:23, the robot, followed by some horrible lead in to what I can only guess is some type of walk like an egyptian thing at 0:30, some kind of weird line dance thing at 0:50 (and other times in the future), uncalled for Jazz hands at 1:03, the egyptian thing again at 1:20, some disco pointing and nearly continuous generalized awkward behavior towards hot chicks in a nightclub (or deserted alley) setting. I'd log the last 2 minutes, but you get the point.

If I had to pick a favorite Hip/Hop artist, Mr. Land would be one of my top. I think its hilarious that he basically went into business with his own label and made a metric ton of money and then started appearing in random Hip/Hop songs at the usually disqualifying age of 36, usually acting like a tragically unhip white guy in the music videos. He's the man.

For whatever reason, I can't hear Timbaland's name and not think of Justin Timberlake. And of course, there is not more classic Timberlake performance this one. I just don't understand how it's failed to reach internet cult status to this point.

Janet Jackson certainly triggered a big controversy because of that performance; the courts still aren't done with that case.  Revealing her breast unleashed a chain of consequences that will not end until someone makes a final, glorious self-sacrifice that will restore the land to its prior innocence and greatness.  In this way, that performance reminds me of the Immolation of Brünnhilde, the finale to Wagner's Götterdämmerung.  (Which, incidentally, was my write-in vote back when they had the contest to pick the theme song for Hillary Clinton's campaign).

Only this band wrote an instrumental set a little closer to home, and inspired by a popular habit in California: driving.

Or if you want another very influential song with rain in it, you could try this possible masterpiece, with the riffs and cover that launched a thousand metal bands, for better or worse . . .

We all know that another accepted transliteration of voodoo is "hoodoo," so here are the Hoodoo Gurus.

Somebody put together to half hour filler segments, including "Big Deal" by the Hoodoo Gurus. Good song, but I like the idea of driving down the avenue in a killer rig. Beware the playground!

From the legendary band that steals your face.
In the '60s you could apparently get your rain pre-packaged.

Well, since the original choice is not available on YouTube, we'll have to go with a song that starts off "Standing in the rain...."

Couldn't find it on YouTube.

By the same artist.

Couldn't find it on YouTube.

Apparently (the artist formerly known as) Prince is big on enforcing his DMCA rights to get stuff tossed off YouTube.
