After 35 years of Senate service, Richard Lugar (R-IN), whose reputation for foreign policy expertise and bipartisanship has long been well-respected, got cashiered by Indiana Republicans, who chose Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock to run for U.S. Senate as their candidate instead of Lugar.
Another Tea Party victory? If so, it gives Democrats better chances in Indiana than they had before. For now, Republicans like their chances of winning control of America's Senate in November, but pushing aside old-timers like Lugar makes that final victory less likely.
