Tim Pawlenty! (Redux)

Remember former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty from his Republican presidential campaign? As sharp as he was at promoting his own candidacy, he just might be even better at promoting the candidacy of his new BFF Mitt Romney. So good that Mitt seems inclined to choose him as his vice presidential nominee.

Why? Romney figures he has been doing so well that his selection for vice president should be guided by "first, do no harm". Lots of Republicans thought Florida Senator Marco Rubio might be Romney's choice, but rumours swirled recently that Rubio wasn't even being vetted, rumours that later had to be denied by Romney's campaign.

Tim Pawlenty: Great idea, doesn't hurt any, bores us to tears, or too early to say?

I don't think Vice Presidential picks matter much at all in determing the final outcome, but Pawlenty is about as vanilla as they come. I guess its a safe, if completely uninspiring, choice.

Except John McCain didn't believe that in August in 2008.
and the election proved him wrong.

To argue Palin lost him the election you'd have to show he had half a shot to win before he picked her which he didn't. McCain was dead in the water with a lethargic campaign and had to take a risk. In the end his VP pick didn't matter much because he wasn't in a position to win anyway.

Minnesota is too far north. If they pick him they're dumber than I thought. They'll probably pick him -- Romney's camp has shown no real veritas yet.
