State Senator Becky Carney of North Carolina, who on 2 July pushed her Green Button instead of her Red Button, thereby accidentally overturning Governor Perdue's veto by one vote and legalising fracking in her state.

In 19th century America, she could have retired on that accident. But Ms. Carney shrugs and moves on with business as usual.

A. Honest mistake, combined with interesting legislative rules.
