Madonna might want to avoid any future concerts in Russia. Anti-gay activists in that rigidly conformist nation have sued her for $10.5 million for endorsing gay rights during her concert in St. Petersburg, thereby "insulting their feelings".

Activist Alexei Kolotkov explained:

"Maybe someone does not see the link but after Madonna's concert maybe some boy becomes gay, some girl becomes lesbian, fewer children are born as a result and this big country cannot defend its borders - for me it causes moral suffering."

I bet it causes "moral suffering" in Muslim countries that some people profess Christianity. I bet it causes "moral suffering" in some southern American states when black people get elected to high office. Pussy Riot's trial could yet come home to haunt people in other lands. I bet feminism in general causes "moral suffering" for most traditional religious people.

And so another shoe drops. No wonder so many TnT conservatives favoured punishing Pussy Riot. Maybe they hope they can have "Pussy Riot"-style trials of their own in America.

Feminism causes moral suffering to anyone with a brain.

And good for them. It's about time people started using political correctness against itself so that those who so slavishly adhere to it can see firsthand its repugnance to a well formed society.

If I were on the jury, I'd find against her for $10.5 M easy. Do they have juries in Russia or does Putin just pretend to ask for leniency then throw you in jail?

With luck, Russia could manage to prevent all Western musicians from playing there. Another reason you would be freer in Russia than in America or Britain, since you wouldn't have to listen to (as much) music created by black people.

I don't think it'll take too much luck. Between this and Pussy Riot getting two years in prison for trespassing and being obnoxious, if I were a tour manager, I wouldn't set foot inside Russia right now, unless the band I was managing played Russian folk songs with the lyrics rewritten to talk about how awesome Putin is.

Like the Lukoil grab, these are just more signals that if you piss off the wrong Russian, their legal system can be bent into a shovel that you'll be hit over the head with. That dynamic exists in all countries, of course, but Putin's Russia has it in spades.
