The last thing an outfit like Blackwater would want is to see any of its employees fall under Shari'a law. It's a good thing Paul Bremer established "hands off" as the appropriate way to deal with Blackwater back when he was big cheese in Iraq.

According to the United Nations, opium production in Afghanistan has shot up 50% from the year before, while eradication efforts destroy production in almost every other state in the Golden Triangle.

The Hero's Dead But The Controversy Lives On

The story of Pat Tillman is not yet over.  Although the man has been dead and buried for close to three years, the controversy surrounding him continues to live on.  The military has just released its latest version of what happened to Tillman and they are hoping this will be the end of it.  However, the Tillman family doesn't believe the final word has been written just yet.

Taliban Back Again? A Number Three Caught & Suicide Army Ready To Go

Well, that didn't take long.  No sooner did US Vice President Dick Cheney show up in Pakistan to tell President Pervez Musharaf his country was slacking in the fight against international terrorists than things happened.  The principal thing was Pakistani authorities arresting Mullah Obaidullah, the former Taliban defense minister and reported number three to Taliban leader Mullah Muhammad Omar.  But, just like the capture of every other al-Qaeda and Taliban number three in the past, it looks like it will have little effect on the Taliban's intentions to make things bloody in Afghanistan this spring.

Will Germany Be Saying Auf Wiedersehen To Afghanistan?

The old saying goes "a picture says a thousand words."  If there's any truth to that, a German magazine just printed 5,000 damning words on the conduct of the German Army.  The pictures appearing in a recent issue of Bild magazine showed German Army soldiers in Afghanistan desecrating human remains they found on patrol.  The pictures sparked outrage at the behavior of the soldiers.  This, combined with a few other factors, are causing the German government to take a hard look at its ongoing commitment to Afghanistan.
