You can file this one under Stupid Lawsuits or Fight for Consumer Justice. Believe it or not, there lives and breathes a person who responded to an email who learned the sender wasn't being truthful. So mortified at being lied to by email (not to mention loss of money) Anthony Michaels of San Diego is taking the sender to court for successfully duping him.

The reaction to the passage of California ballot Proposition 8 has become loud and heated. The measure which passed by a margin of 52% to 48% of the more than 10 million votes cast, invalidated the state's recently established gay marriage rights. For now, it's back to the courts for leaders in the fight to legalize gay marriage in the state. For those not in a leadership position, it's become time to take to the streets and get loud and abrasive.

To some, Rachel Bird and Gideon Codding are traditionalists who believe what was good for prior generations should be good enough forever. To others, the Roseville, California couple is small-minded in refusing to go with the flow and change with the times. To Rachel and Gideon, they are now, and forever will be, bride and groom. To the state of California they're the less romantic, yet fully functional "Party A" and "Party B." Because Rachel and Gideon are so insistent on their right to be referred to as bride and groom on the official state document certifying their union, the state says it cannot recognize their marriage.

It all started with a minor blow up between a trade group and the internet search giant over publicizing Google's privacy policy. In the course of a week, it has gone from that minor blow up to an active assault on Google over its lack of complying with industry standards on publishing their privacy policies. Further, their failure isn't simply a case of not keeping up with industry standards, they're also breaking the law.

California's Supreme Court has ruled that a voter-approved referendum banning homosexual marriage was unconstitutional, setting the stage for its complete legalization in the most populous US state. The ruling came even though California already allows gay couples to enter into civil unions which, under the law, had all the same rights, privileges, and obligations of heterosexual marriage.

If you're a member of the Geek Squad asked to fix someone's computer and you find kiddie porn on the hard drive and you report it to the police, you're a hero. If you're a library aide in Tulare County, California and you spot a patron using library computers to view kiddie porn and report him to the cops, you're out of a job. At least that's what Brenda Biesterfeld is saying happened to her and it's a case that has the entire community in an uproar.

At last count there were 166,000 homeschooled children in the state of California. They are homeschooled, primarily by a parent, due to religious beliefs or dissatisfaction with public schools. Those who advocate homeschooling like to point to the fact that some kids benefit from the practice. All that is about to change in California as, due to a court decision, there are close to 166,000 truants in the state and their parents could end up in trouble with the law.

Among the unfortunate effects of this nation's credit and housing crisis is that it's not just that subprime ARMs are about to shove mortgage payments through the roof. In some markets, property values have crashed straight through the floor and into the basement.

You won't find many people seriously arguing global climate change is not a threat. Reducing greenhouse emissions has practically become a mantra among environmentalists. But many people are very antsy with the seemingly glacial pace of the US federal government in coming up with a plan. We're not signing onto the Kyoto Protocol is also a mantra out of Washington. The situation has pretty much turned into stasis. Thus when a state like California, decides to take the initiative and implement some tough emissions standards themselves, you would think that would be a good thing. WRONG! The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) turned a firm thumb's down to a waiver request from California to impose its tough tailpipe emissions standard.
