Laslo Mujzer of Bonita Springs, Florida may soon be clogging up the docket of a courtroom in Florida. The 43-year-old man is charged with petty theft under (US)$100, a misdemeanor. Make that charge way under $100 because what Mujzer is charged with is stealing a whopping 42 cents out of a shopping mall fountain.

Ever since it opened up in January, the Hunt Club of Brevard has been a source of controversy in Melbourne, Florida. Their web site says they're a private group dedicated to helping others explore "alternative lifestyles." They explain there are no membership fees because they're "not a business." The controversy arises because the Hunt Club does collect donations (to help them cover expenses) and is located in a residential neighborhood and the neighbors want it gone.

The law says a person should be held responsible for his or her own actions.  But, in cases where the actor is a juvenile, some states have passed parental responsibility laws.  Most of these laws involve fining or charging parents the cost of adjudicating their children's cases.  Recently, we discussed new laws visiting criminal penalties on parents who fail to control their wayward children.  But, do you charge a parent with a crime commensurate with what you charge their child with?  Such a question is being answered in the affirmative in Florida as authorities have charged a parent with second degree manslaughter for a car crash her son caused.

Remember the state that makes sex offenders spend life under a bridge due to the registry residency laws? What happens when they get banished from the only  bridge they've ever called home? They have to march to the Everglades swamp and set up camp there.

He was soon sent to prison for 25 years for drug trafficking and lost everything. The twist in this case? Schools in Florida seem to be stuck in neutral.  One of the telltale signs of this is a graduation rate which ranks somewhere in the lower half of graduation rates among the states.  What to do to improve the situation was the main question on the minds of Florida's educational elite.  They think they have come up with a solution, at least they hope they have.  That solution has nothing to do with improving the schools or coming up with ways of decreasing the student/teacher ratio.  The solution the Florida Department of Education has just blessed is to offer a dizzying array of officially approved majors for the state's school kids.
