When you arrive at the LGT Group's web site you are greeted with sort of a mission statement. It reads "The fine art of wealth management: Applying innovative methods and instruments to build, preserve and enhance lasting value." Outwardly, that's a fiscally smart strategy - diversify and watch your wealth grow legally - totally befitting a staid European bank located in Liechtenstein. But, now it seems that mission statement might have a less than smart aspect to it as investigators in the US and Europe begin looking to see if innovative = illegal.

Incest is a behavior upon which society frowns.  The notion of family members having sexual relations, especially incidents of father-on-daughter or mother-on-son sex is almost universally considered taboo.  There are criminal penalties for stuff like that and punishment can be severe.  But what about brother-on-sister sex - should that necessarily be taboo?  A German court is going to address the issue in the near future.  At least, it will answer a question - should the government keep punishing the brother and sister if they show no intention of ending their sexual relationship?

The old saying goes "a picture says a thousand words."  If there's any truth to that, a German magazine just printed 5,000 damning words on the conduct of the German Army.  The pictures appearing in a recent issue of Bild magazine showed German Army soldiers in Afghanistan desecrating human remains they found on patrol.  The pictures sparked outrage at the behavior of the soldiers.  This, combined with a few other factors, are causing the German government to take a hard look at its ongoing commitment to Afghanistan.
