What's In A Naming Right?

Two National Football League clubs, the Giants and the Jets call Giant Stadium in the Meadowlands home.  They will still be sharing a home stadium when Giant Stadium is replaced by a new stadium in 2010.  What to call it is creating a major stir up in New York these days.  No, it's not going to be a toss between Giant or Jets Stadium.  The controversy surrounds the result of naming rights negotiations with a major insurance company.  On the one hand you have those who are upset that a company which used to insure the Auschwitz concentration camp might end up on the side of the building.  Then there are those who say, hasn't enough time passed since that unpleasantness?

Sam Gross is a cartoonist.  He seems cut from the same bolt of cloth as Charles Addams or Gary Larson.  His métier is to take the ordinary, give it a bizarre twist, but make sure it's funny.  Gross' latest effort is one which could hit a raw nerve rather than the funny bone, however.  Because, in the mind of at least one book critic, even when the cartoon's drawn by a 74-year-old Jew, not everyone is going to be amused.

The story is a gripping Holocaust survival tale.  Misha: A Memoire of the Holcaust Years is the story of a four-year-old orphaned when her Belgian Jewish parents were arrested by the Nazis.  It recounted her subsequent trek across Europe in the company of wolves, survival in the wild, and deadly encounters with Nazis in the Warsaw Ghetto.
