Charlotte Dennett is running for Attorney General of Vermont. She's the Independent Party candidate and that alone would seem to dictate her finding something to set her apart from the other candidates for the job. Boy Howdy, did she come up with a doozy - if elected she will will try George W. Bush for murder.

During the summer of 2007, attacks on U.S. forces fell from a high of 1,550 a week to below 800 a week, and civilian fell approximately 75 percent during 2007. Conventional Washington wisdom is that the surge of troops into Iraq and associated changes in military strategy caused this fall in violence, although others point to the Anbar Awakening. Bob Woodward's new book raises a mysterious third explanation: "a series of top-secret operations" that allowed U.S. Special Forces to "locate, target and kill key individuals."

One of the most stirring part of any Olympic Games is the opening ceremony. Athletes march into the host nation's stadium under their nation's banner to await the lighting of the torch. Yet, when this occurs on August 8th in Beijing one country's delegation won't be marching. That country, Iraq, will "probably not" make it because the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has just, in effect, banned it from competing.

Call it another case of the military being equipped to fight the battles of decades long past. Troops serving abroad have complained that the standard bullets issued shoot straight and fast -- perhaps too fast.

Congress is in the process of considering the most massive expansion to the GI Bill since World War II. Democratic leaders in both houses are solidly behind the measure with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D - CA) calling it a "thank you" to the men and women who have put their lives on the line for the nation. President George Bush, obviously thinking the men and women in uniform have been thanked enough, will veto it if it passes. He essentially says it's too much of a "thank you" to his liking.

As we speak Iraqis are waging a tough battle against militia fighters and criminals in Basra, many of whom have received arms and training and funding from Iran.
The President is trying to sell the attack on the Mahdi Army in Basra as a good guys vs. bad guys attempt to chase Iranian influence from Iraq. The problem is that the Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's Dawa party has far deeper and stronger ties to Iran than does al-Sadr's Mahdi army, and recently Maliki has become very strongly allied with the SIIC, which has the strongest ties to Iran of any major group in Iraq.

3/19/03: The world watched as the seconds counted down on a final 48 hour ultimatum for President Hussein to leave his country. Then it started. Five years ago today was the initial attack on Iraq intended to assassinate Saddam Hussein seconds after the deadline expired. People around the world will remember where they were and what they were doing when the first reports of attacks on Baghdad started, when Ari Fleischer gave his smug 1 sentence statement announcing the start of the war, or when 'Shock and Awe' started a few days later.

Anti-war advocates have long insisted that vocally opposing the war was their way of supporting US troops. Conservatives, in contrast, argued that anti-war rhetoric does nothing but embolden the enemies of the United States. A new study appears to indicate that during the Iraq War, the conservatives were right.
