One of the most abused terms this political season is "maverick."  It's been co-opted and practically trademarked by John McCain and Sarah Palin.  Whether you believe they're mavericks or not, I subscribe to the notion that a true maverick -- "one that refuses to abide by the dictates of or resists adherence to a group; a dissenter" - would hardly refer to him or herself in that way, and generally don't do it when running at the top of one of the two big political parties in the land.  So, what's my notion of a true maverick?  Glad you asked.  He's Tom Dart, Sheriff of Cook County, Illinois who says he's had it with the economic status quo and he's not going to do foreclosure evictions anymore.

If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league.

At last count there were 166,000 homeschooled children in the state of California.  They are homeschooled, primarily by a parent, due to religious beliefs or dissatisfaction with public schools. Those who advocate homeschooling like to point to the fact that some kids benefit from the practice. All that is about to change in California as, due to a court decision, there are close to 166,000 truants in the state and their parents could end up in trouble with the law.
