The soap opera that was the final days of Paul Wolfowitz's term as president of the World Bank reached a climax with the word of his resignation from his job, effective June 30th. The steps leading up to this moment having already been discussed here at TnT, the only thing left is to fill in some of the blanks from then to now.

When uber neo-conservative Paul Wolfowitz left his job at the Defense Department to become head of the World Bank the choice was controversial. But Wolfowitz said he understood the importance in what the World Bank did and he was committed to seeing it execute its mission. And, a year into his job he spoke of the bank's role in rooting out corruption and establishing higher ethical standards in order to fight global poverty. However, if an investigation of the bank's board is proven correct, he would have benefited by practicing those "higher ethical standards" when it came to his running the bank.
