The reason this story is being filed in my diary is that I will not practice a scintilla of objectivity with this one. As is often the case whenever the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) hold their convention, they invite a high ranking member of the executive branch of the government to deliver a few words. So it was to be this year as they invited Vice President Dick Cheney to be the guest speaker at the convention set to take place in Las Vegas from 9 to 12 August. They'll just have to soldier alone without hearing the words of inspiration one of this nation's biggest chicken hawks has to offer them as the DAV has yanked their invite to Cheney.

What with all the bad press about how our government treats its veterans, you might think things would have changed. Apparently not for a group of veterans who felt that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) had been making mental health care virtually impossible for them. So, this group of vets took the VA to federal court to try to get the VA to carry out a plan the agency came up with in 2004 - something along the lines of speeding up the process and getting help for them. Following a non-jury trial, US District Judge Samuel Conti essentially told the vets "it's not my job" in dismissing their case.
