Charlotte Dennett is running for Attorney General of Vermont. She's the Independent Party candidate and that alone would seem to dictate her finding something to set her apart from the other candidates for the job. Boy Howdy, did she come up with a doozy - if elected she will will try George W. Bush for murder.

Remember those cross border raids US Special Forces troops pulled off in Pakistan recently? The good news is they reportedly bagged some bad guys. The bad news is they might have also killed some innocent people and managed to piss the Pakistanis off more than a bit. The significant thing is they they ushered in another new wrinkle in the War on Terror. According to Pentagon sources, the Bush administration has quietly implemented a new policy in going after Taliban and al-Qaeda types who camp out on the Pakistan side of the border with Afghanistan. That new policy involves sending in troops without bothering to ask permission from our friends and allies in Islamabad.

During the summer of 2007, attacks on U.S. forces fell from a high of 1,550 a week to below 800 a week, and civilian fell approximately 75 percent during 2007. Conventional Washington wisdom is that the surge of troops into Iraq and associated changes in military strategy caused this fall in violence, although others point to the Anbar Awakening. Bob Woodward's new book raises a mysterious third explanation: "a series of top-secret operations" that allowed U.S. Special Forces to "locate, target and kill key individuals."

Things have gone way beyond border incursions along the Russian-Georgian border. Ever since last week, open hostilities have been ongoing with both sides claiming the role of innocent victim of the other. By all accounts, Russian forces are getting the best of Georgian forces with the fate of the former Soviet Socialist Republic hanging in the balance. As a matter of fact, things are going so great for the Russians that President Dmitry Medvedev said combat operations might soon "be complete."

3/19/03: The world watched as the seconds counted down on a final 48 hour ultimatum for President Hussein to leave his country. Then it started. Five years ago today was the initial attack on Iraq intended to assassinate Saddam Hussein seconds after the deadline expired. People around the world will remember where they were and what they were doing when the first reports of attacks on Baghdad started, when Ari Fleischer gave his smug 1 sentence statement announcing the start of the war, or when 'Shock and Awe' started a few days later.

Is it too late for one more war?
The head of CENTCOM, Admiral William Fallon has resigned under pressure from the more hawkish members of the Bush administration.
Admiral Fallon once said that an attack on Iran "would not happen on my watch". Well, it's no longer his watch...and it looks like Iranian conservatives will maintain their grip on the Iranian parliament for the next few years.

President George W. Bush and seven of his administration's top officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, made at least 935 false statements in the two years following September 11, 2001, about the national security threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Nearly five years after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, an exhaustive examination of the record shows that the statements were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses.
