Here's how this works. Look at the YouTube music video link, and you find another song with at least a tangential connection. You post a link to that music video. The next person posts a link to one in reply to yours. And around and around we go in the music video circle of trust.

Based on a court ruling yesterday, Google must turn over all records of every YouTube video ever watched- and the user data and IP's of visitors as well.  It also has to turn over copies of any videos taken down for any reason.  It seems that when they "take down" a video they don't actually delete it, but rather "hide" it from view (something I didn't know).  Here's a PDF of the full decision.

I spent a good portion of my Friday evening at a fund raiser at some banquet hall. You know, the ones everybody gets guilted into going to, or possibly for the open bar serving only wine in a plastic cup or Canadian beer by the pitcher. The good thing is the evening allowed for lengthy introspection after which I realized a 3rd party candidate has little to no shot in this country for the foreseeable future.

Band On The Run: Life -Vs- Life On The Road

While groups like the My Morning Jacket, Kings of Leon, Band of Horses and Midlake have received critical acclaim as great new Americana/roots rock/alt-country/ (insert your favorite label here) bands and have consequently gained national followings, Two Cow Garage has been almost completely ignored, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

The above scenario plays out all over the world; somewhere, everywhere, there's a band talented enough to attain greatness and acclaim, but is still unable to reach that damn brass ring dangling right before their eyes. How does if affect their lives, this unquantifiable quest for recognition?

Three of the most used web services are being torn apart by the legal ramifications of copyright. YouTube (owned by Google), GoogleNews, and MySpace have all seen the writing on the wall (or been handed a judgment) regarding the unauthorized usage of copyrighted materials by their sites. YouTube and MySpace have the same problem, their users are posting copyrighted videos and both have started to act on it. GoogleNews has dug its own grave after losing a recent court case in Belgium.

For most of us, the words "YouTube" and "$1.65 billion" do not go naturally into the same sentence.  The phrases "pet videos," "small-time copyright infringement," and "low-grade amateur porn" seem to fit better.  But now the Valley is swinging like it's 1999 again: Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion in stock.
