If the Big Three automakers want a piece of the (US)$700 billion bailout Congress has its icy grip on, they have until December 2nd to come up with a plan.  What the automakers are looking for is a bridge loan to get them to the point in time when credit markets loosen up to the point they can borrow enough money to continue operating.  The only other alternative on the table right now is to let the automakers file for bankruptcy and hope they can reorganize themselves into survivability.  Now, there's a third alternative being placed on the table.

Why Is Henry Paulson Wearing A Suit With Question Marks All Over It?

You know, if you closed your eyes you could mistake the nation's Treasury Secretary for the man who loudly proclaims "THE GOVERNMENT'S GIVING AWAY MONEY!"  Because since Secretary Paulson informed the nation that the (US)$700 billion bailout would not be used for its original, stated purpose - buying up troubled assets and mortgages - and would now be directed in other directions, Washington has become quite Leskoesque.

General Motors is worth about as much as it was in 1948, Ford just had its worst month of auto sales since the end of World War II, and Chrysler barely even exists anymore.  Times are bad for the U.S. auto industry; so bad that G.M. has bluntly stated it may run out of money before the end of the year, placing its ability to "continue as a going concern" at serious risk.  GM says its last best hope is a federal bailout, and Democratic leaders -- including President-elect Obama -- seem to be listening.

No need for a long-winded write up on this.  The global financial markets are in the toilet.  The American market is leading the way with yet another retreat of market indices right after the US government passed that (US)$700 billion bailout. So far this week the US market has dropped over 850 points, with no end in sight. Foreign markets are, if anything, doing even worse - the Japanese Nikkei recorded its largest drop in two decades on Wednesday, losing a stunning 9.4% of its value in a single day.  But soon, real soon, one hopes the money will begin flowing from the federal treasury to buy up a bunch of distressed paper allowing banks to open up the sluice gates to the credit market.  At least, that's the theory, but what's the truth?

Saw the votes on my T.V. Thought about complaining, but was too lazy. Now instead of free markets and all of that, our debt is overflowing and our unneeded intervention is gettin' laughed at. F-R-E-E that spells free, $300B mortgage bailout bay-be.

News has tricked out that the Bush Administration has worked out agreements with the mortgage industry to freeze rates for those with subprime adjustable rate mortgages for at least five years.
