Black & White.  Yin & Yang.

For whatever reason, salt & pepper have become the almost-universal accompaniment on just about every dining room table and restaurant I've ever seen.  Indeed, I have salt and pepper shakers on my own table.  People even collect  the things.

No, I'm not talking Hiroshima here, I'm talking about in the kitchen.  Microwave ovens have been around since the late 1960's, IIRC, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microwave_oven).  My first one was an Amana Radarange, and when it finally gave up the ghost, it was ~20 years old.

Well, women certainly do lots of cooking, too, but I don't think they're as obsessed about how they cook than men are.  It's a primal thing, I guess.

I've liked cooking on a modest electric range for many years.  It's what I grew up with, and I'm used to them.

I'm not talking about Sweet little girls, but the things you put in your piehole.

Sugar is right up there.  White, brown, raw, maple, honey... they're all good.

Condiments, anyone?

Yes, it's another food thread.

I can't imagine living without some condiments on my food.  Steak sauce, catsup (yes, I'm aware that most people spell it ketchup, but that's the way I learned it), mustard - shoot I'm sure I have a least a half-dozen of them.

This story in USA Today got me to thinking.  The restaurant business is in the pits.  Lots of possible reasons why.  High prices?  Bad service (with tips still expected)?  Better off cooking at home?

I love the stuff, and have a whole range of vinegars in my pantry. Vinegar can be almost anything you want, from cleaning agent to cooking ingredient to condiment.

For the past year, I've experimented with some MREs, and have found most of them surprisingly good.  A US Army buddy of mine turned me on to them.

Organic food or processed food?

I can't make up my mind - super healthy or super cheap?  I love Mung bean sprouts, and have some growing in the kitchen almost every day (I've got three sprouters). On the other hand, I still like some processed food, like Green Giant veggies in cheese sauce.
