No need for a long-winded write up on this.  The global financial markets are in the toilet.  The American market is leading the way with yet another retreat of market indices right after the US government passed that (US)$700 billion bailout. So far this week the US market has dropped over 850 points, with no end in sight. Foreign markets are, if anything, doing even worse - the Japanese Nikkei recorded its largest drop in two decades on Wednesday, losing a stunning 9.4% of its value in a single day.  But soon, real soon, one hopes the money will begin flowing from the federal treasury to buy up a bunch of distressed paper allowing banks to open up the sluice gates to the credit market.  At least, that's the theory, but what's the truth?

Should Shopaholism Be A Mental Disorder?

Just like every other group of specialists, mental health professionals must rely upon an accurate, complete and up-to-date user manual to help them do their jobs. One of those jobs is the correct diagnosis of what's ailing the various patients they encounter. The manual they refer to is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). These mental health community is eagerly looking forward to the next edition of the DSM. But as the prep work is ongoing for this next edition, one of the debates raging now in this community is "should compulsive shopping be listed as a disorder?"

In 2005, a US government study found that of the 2.4 billion prescriptions written, 118 million were for one type or another of anti-depressant, making this the most commonly issued drug in the country.
