American football begins yet another season in its annual quest for the Lombardi Trophy. Tee En Tee has shown its affinity for making baseless predictions -- and occasionally being right -- so it's as good a time as any to give those another shot.

And you thought the Republican National Convention would be boring this year!  It began with a hurricane, forcing the cancellation of all major activity; continued through a withering speech by Democrat/Independent Joe Lieberman, a surprisingly strong speech by Sarah Palin, and is scheduled to finish with McCain's acceptance speech tonight.

Joseph Shepard could be a candidate for poster child for the Sixth Amendment Society, should such a society ever be formed. He's been sitting in a jail cell in Jennings, Missouri waiting to have his drug case resolved in court. He's been waiting for almost two years, most of it spent in his cell 23 hours out of each 24 hour day. He's been forgotten by the system.

Dislike jury duty?  Then don't walk near courthouses in Oregon.  A judge in Eugene, Oregon, facing a shortage of jurors, ordered a sheriff's deputies to walk outside the courthouse, onto a busy downtown street, and "summon the first 10 to 12 people you see" to serve as jurors.

Toad Christ -- Art Or Sacrilege?

Is it art or not? That's the eternal question which has greeted such efforts as Fountain by Marcel DuChamp, Piss Christ by Andres Serrano, and so on. Just as it always is, so it goes with a piece hung in a museum in Bolzano, Italy. The art critic assailing the piece does have a certain air of authority about him. But, nevermind, the museum says "meh" to the critic's concerns and that they're going to continue to display the crucified toad.

Senator Says `Get To Work' - Federal Workers Say `Get Real'

US Senator Tom Coburn (R - OK) is no fan of big government. He's not really what you could call a fan of federal workers. Thus, when the Oklahoma uber conservative thinks he's found a juicy piece of red meat involving absenteeism of federal workers, he starts chomping down reflexively. He's doing a good bit of masticating these days over his finding that federal workers are absent without leave (AWOL) in droves from their workplaces.

I have just purchased a cordless phone to replace an old beater of a cord phone that I held onto for years. Suddenly I find myself questioning the effect of whatever is radiating from these wireless devices. (I am getting a little more safety conscious lately because my partner and I are expecting our first child in September.)

In 2000, when Stephanie Gerson (then 19) found herself in Brazil she decided she wanted to go into the jungle deeper than any tour would take her. So she did the logical thing: flirted with the resort bus boy and arranged to have him take her on a private two week tour of the jungle in exchange for sex.
