Black & White. Yin & Yang.
For whatever reason, salt & pepper have become the almost-universal accompaniment on just about every dining room table and restaurant I've ever seen. Indeed, I have salt and pepper shakers on my own table. People even collect the things.

No, I'm not talking Hiroshima here, I'm talking about in the kitchen. Microwave ovens have been around since the late 1960's, IIRC, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microwave_oven). My first one was an Amana Radarange, and when it finally gave up the ghost, it was ~20 years old.

From bungee jumping to all sorts of extreme sports -- people do crazy things because the thrill achieved by risking one's life makes the experience worth it. Would the experience still be worth it if the risk were removed? Is it even the same experience? These questions are being raised in Japan by a group of merchants involved in the fugu trade. Put quite plainly, if you eat a dish of fugu or puffer fish which hasn't been prepared properly, you can die. But now they're selling non-poisonous fugu. The merchants involved in selling the toxic versions are upset at the potential loss of business. They also pose the question of whether living a risk-free life is a life at all.

A hot new company for investment is Senomyx. They've scored major contracts with food suppliers such as Nestle, Kraft, and Coca Cola. Their earnings are looking good and they're pouring money back into research and development.

Quite possibly the finest food that mankind ever conjured up. For cheese was one way of preserving milk, along with yogurt.

Well, women certainly do lots of cooking, too, but I don't think they're as obsessed about how they cook than men are. It's a primal thing, I guess.
I've liked cooking on a modest electric range for many years. It's what I grew up with, and I'm used to them.

Well, I know there are plenty of chocolate junkies out there besides just me.
I'm also a sucker for Heath bars, Jelly Belly jelly beans (President Reagan's favorite), Reese's peanut butter cups, and I'm only getting started.

Currently, one of the big scientific mysteries is the Honeybee Holocaust. Okay, that was hyperbolic. But, the truth of the matter is that honeybees have been disappearing without explanation for sometime. This is a mystery which could turn into a crisis because of the impact of the honeybee on our food supply. While a group of scientists don't claim to have the complete answer to the mystery, they do offer what might be a significant piece of the puzzle. Put very simply, bees are dying off because they can't smell the flowers.

World hunger has long been a problem but typically the starving have had the decency to die in silence. Rising food prices, however, have caused shortages in places that aren't quite so used to starving.

I try to eat healthy, I really do, but there are a few things I just can't get away from. Little Debbie's oatmeal creme pies are my downfall.
Potato chips rate right up there, as do pretzels. Corn chips and salsa has become very popular. I like my corn chips best with guacamole.

Sausage -- the most delicious food you never want to see being made.
I grew up in modest house, and sausage was a staple. We couldn't afford steak when I was growing up, and sausage was cheap (basically the leftovers from the fancy steaks you find on your table or at a restaurant).
There are so many varieties. Kielbasa, pepperoni, chorizo, hurka... name your poison.

Lots of people are finicky about which is right for which meal. Red wine with red meat, white wine for white meat.
I'm not that particular. My personal favorite is Widmer's Lake Niagara, but that's just me, and it's hard to find.
