The Democratic National Convention continues in Denver, Colorado. The first night saw an emotional goodbye to the Kennedy era, a speech from a possible future First Lady, and the old standby of cops beating up hippies. The convention is expected to continue with speeches from Hillary Clinton, and ticket headliners Barack Obama and Joe Biden and other Democratic luminaries. A tricky issue will be ensuring party unity after a fractious primary season lead to hurt feelings.
Join us for a discussion and analysis of the convention as it progresses.

A reporter visited a few sites and was shocked by what she saw. No children playing. No residents outside. The constant pop-pop-pop of random gunfire. Broken glass scattered across trashed playground equipment. Pools of human blood spilled across the sidewalk, remaining there for days. Remaining citizens cowering in internal rooms of their homes for fear of their safety. Animals and insects coming in through gaping holes in the roof. Narcotics trafficking and looting in broad daylight.
Where was this? Afghanistan? Iraq? Sudan? South Ossetia? Tijuana? No. Urban public housing in the United States.

John McCain thought he had the perfect way to discredit his opponent Barack Hussein Obama. He would making a video equating Obama's "rock star" status to the vapidity that Americans associate with Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. For a day it worked. But in so doing, McCain accomplished what was previously thought impossible: making Paris Hilton politically relevant.

If you're driving on Pennsylvania roads and you're crossing a bridge, there's almost a 50-50 chance the bridge you're on is in really bad repair. As a matter of fact, if you use a bridge anywhere in the US there's a one in four chance of that. Those are the facts contained in a report recently released regarding the basic distressed state of US transportation infrastructure. Like everything else, the report paints the picture of a crisis -- a crisis it will take a lot of money to fix.
