In 2000, when Stephanie Gerson (then 19) found herself in Brazil she decided she wanted to go into the jungle deeper than any tour would take her. So she did the logical thing: flirted with the resort bus boy and arranged to have him take her on a private two week tour of the jungle in exchange for sex.

At a press conference in Barcelona on Monday, European fertility scientists announced a plan to bring cheap in-vitro fertilization procedures to Africa. The procedure, which has in the past been successfully used on farm animals, runs about $200. Current "best practices" human IVF procedures cost up to $10,000 in the West.

The American Psychiatric Association has announced (pdf) the list of practitioners that will draft the next Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. Given that so many conditions listed in the current DSM are sexual in nature, and subject to delisting many are closely watching the names appointees as a sign of which way the APA will shift in drawing the line for sexual "deviance."

In Slate magazine's "Human Nature" column, William Saletan argues that societal constraints against incest, polygamy, and homosexuality all have roughly the same roots, and that those reasons are becoming less and less compelling in modern society.

Ever since it opened up in January, the Hunt Club of Brevard has been a source of controversy in Melbourne, Florida. Their web site says they're a private group dedicated to helping others explore "alternative lifestyles." They explain there are no membership fees because they're "not a business." The controversy arises because the Hunt Club does collect donations (to help them cover expenses) and is located in a residential neighborhood and the neighbors want it gone.

The Family Violence Partnership of Milwaukee, Wisconsin wants you to know that statutory rape is a bad thing.  So, they've begun running a print ad to drive home that message.  What they're trying to combat is the often-proffered excuse that "but she looked old enough."  Their message is, even if she has the body, she might not be old enough to have sex.  The part that's raising concerns is, in order to graphically drive home their point, they applied some Photoshop skills to add boobies to a young model (might be considered NSFW in some places).

It's a question that seems almost intuitive.  Do we really need a scientific survey to be performed on why people want to have sex?  I mean there's the feel good factor.  Then there's the want to please him or her factor.  Then there's the let's try to have a kid reason.  Wait a minute, this business of why people want to have sex might be a bit more complex and varied than you originally thought.  So a team of researchers from the University of Texas at Austin found out as they managed to identify 237 different reasons why people had sex.

It's been described (with more than a dollop of black humor) as "the activity the entire family can enjoy."  But, incest is, in fact, one of mankind's strongest genetic social taboos.  The law varies from one place to the next when it involves cousins.  But, when it comes to the closest relationships, it's a crime.  It's that way in Ohio, just as it is in every other of the 50 states of the US.  But, what about sex with close relations with whom you don't share bloodlines - like, say stepfather and stepdaughter?  What about when they're both adults?  What about when the sex is consensual?  Surely, there is a limit to the law, right?  Wrong, as an Ohio man recently found out from his state's Supreme Court.

When a child has sexual intercourse with another person, the child is deemed to be the victim and the other person is automatically considered to be a perpetrator.  Justices on the Utah Supreme Court are working hard "to get their minds around" a case in which a child is deemed to be both victim and perpetrator.

California sent a bill to Gov. Schwarzenegger that would allow public health groups and non-profits to deliver condoms to inmates in prison. This was prompted in an effort to cut the cases of HIV in prison and thereby reduce treatment costs in the long-run.
