When you arrive at the LGT Group's web site you are greeted with sort of a mission statement. It reads "The fine art of wealth management: Applying innovative methods and instruments to build, preserve and enhance lasting value." Outwardly, that's a fiscally smart strategy - diversify and watch your wealth grow legally - totally befitting a staid European bank located in Liechtenstein. But, now it seems that mission statement might have a less than smart aspect to it as investigators in the US and Europe begin looking to see if innovative = illegal.

Ed Brown believes himself a patriot and a rebel.  He doesn't agree with the federal government on much.  He especially doesn't agree with its right to take any of the money he earns.  Because of this belief Brown, and his wife Elaine, were convicted on 20 counts of tax evasion.  Because they haven't filed taxes since 1996, Brown and his wife face (US)$700,000 in unpaid taxes and decades in prison when they go up for sentencing in April.  This situation has brought about some frays in the marital fabric, as Elaine has left Ed and he's barricaded himself in his Plainfield, New Hampshire home.  Brown says it's going to be a fight to the death.

But, no alarm bells went off and, as a result, the star of movies like the Blade franchise and White Men Can't Jump is charged with multiple counts of tax evasion.
