The way Marie Jarry sees it, she made a mistake, but a mistake many people make. What the Southington, Connecticut elementary school teacher did was call out sick when she really wasn't. As a result she believes she was coerced into resigning from her job. Teaching school is something Jarry loves almost more than anything and she wants her job back. But, because the teacher's real purpose in faking her sick absence was to appear on a contest run on the Howard Stern Show, the school system won't let her back on the payroll. Thus, she's suing to get her job back.

According to those who keep track of these things, the absentee rate from work hovers in the 2.3 to 2.5 percent range. It also seems that being ill is not the leading reason for bagging a day at the office - only 34 percent of those calling in sick actually have some sort of illness. Two thirds of those taking sick leave are actually doing it for "family issues, personal needs, stress and an entitlement mentality." But, what to do if your boss is onto your slacker ways and starts demanding signed notes from a doctor that you were actually sick? Well, this is the 21st century and you have a computer, right? Just download a US$20 software package with realistic excuse notes that look like they've been signed by a real doctor. What could go wrong?

One Labor Union's New Approach To Protest - Rent A Picketer.

They can be seen all over the District of Columbia -- picketers marching with posters outside buildings employing non-union labor. They'll be chanting slogans like: "What do we want? Fair wages. When do we want them? Now." But, if you approach them and ask them individually about the issues underlying the sloganeering you're likely to not get much of answer. That's because many of the picketers in the line don't belong to the union they're protesting for. For many of them this is their sole source of income, because normally they're homeless and jobless.

How you react to this story will likely be determined by how you feel about office gossip. Is it a harmless pastime; just another innocent opportunity for friends to share interesting information and idle chitchat? Or is it a potentially corrosive, if not slanderous, activity which can negatively affect innocent people's lives? We'll let you be the judge of what it is in the case of the Hooksett Four.

This is a story about how heartfelt and noble concerns for reducing cruelty to animals get a bit warped in transferring from notion to reality. This is also a story about difference between laws as written and laws as enforced. Ultimately, it is the story of the "Mole Guy" and his ongoing fight to help homeowners rid their properties of vermin in the form of moles. It's also about how his insistence on doing his job in the most effective and efficient manner has turned him into a criminal in the eyes of the wildlife police in Washington state.

That's No Tip, That's A Service Charge. No, That's A Rip Off And This Is A Lawsuit.

When you're a part of the service industry where tipping is part of the deal, those tips make up for what is typically a reduced minimum wage. So it has been for the skycaps working American Airlines flights out of Boston's Logan Airport. Their (US)$2.63 per hour wage was nicely increased by the $1 to $2 a bag tip that flyers used to tip them. But, things change in life and so it is with skycap fees and American Airlines at Logan. The airline began charging passengers a fee for baggage checked with the skycaps. Only thing is, according to the skycaps, they didn't make it clear to the passengers that the fee was going to the airline and not to the skycaps and the passengers stopped tipping the skycaps. The skycaps say this is unfair and they're tired of complaining to the airline about it, so they've filed a class-action lawsuit against the airline for their economic loss.

Wars are rarely won in one fell swoop. They must be won battle by battle. As it is in combat, so it goes in civil rights. Recently, another battle was won in the battle to gain dignity and civil rights for transgendered people in the Big Apple. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) reached a settlement allowing a transgendered person to use the ladies room where she works.

Watch enough television dramas and you see a pattern: One group of Americans, more than any other, is the source of most villainy in our world. They lie, steal, rape, and murder, and rarely do anything good for society. This group? Businessmen.
