Somewhere deep in the cube farm of a Vancouver, BC corporate megalith that "resembles, but legally no way is Electronic Arts" lies a group of videogame programmers known as Jpod. As a group they're younger, more attractive, closer-knit and slightly more screwed up than most software engineers. Moreover, they spend an entertaining but unrealistic amount of work time dealing with family issues and Chinese gangsters. Wait, what?

He was an American icon, a keen observer of human behavior and an insightful commenter on modern society. He was the central figure in a landmark obscenity trial, the first person to host Saturday Night Live, and the 2008 Honoree for the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. George Carlin died of heart failure Sunday at Los Angeles-area hospital. He was 71.

The iPhone. Apple's entry into the cell phone market is the biggest thing since the iPod. Since the debut in July, Apple has sold over 1,000,000 of the tiny monoliths and that's only the beginning. It's a sign of the success of the platform that the bulk of the criticisms about the phone itself have been minor.

For the better part of the past decade, one TV show has dominated Sunday Nights: The Sopranos. Now gone (and jeez, you'd think there would have been some media coverage), every network is jockeying to fill the gap. The winner, however, is clear. It's the Independent Film Channel. Sunday night IFC serves up a pair of fresh, original sitcoms that raise the bar for everyone.
